Memory Pilot Wattstyle Socks
Wattstyle socks are the finest performance socks you have ever worn. Designed specifically to perform as well grinding up climbs as they do at high speeds, these socks feature distinct functional zones with varying knits and thickness. Wattstyle socks have a light compression fit with arch support, stay cool and dry, provide support and comfort all while being imperceptible during your effort.
● Ultralight over the ankle: Straps, buckles, and mechanical dials are great, but can also cause discomfort where your ankle flexes during pedaling. The ultralight area over the ankle won’t bunch up, bind, or cause discomfort even under pressure.
● Light compression: An overall light compression fit keeps you feeling fresh and a mid-foot compression band gently supports your arch.
● Open weave front: Thin and breathable open weave front helps you stay cool even at low speed. Grinding up a singletrack, a hot dusty grade, or even on your trainer, you can still find the breeze in these socks.
● Durable heel and toe: Although the Wattstyle is thin, our fabric is still tough. A tighter denser weave in both the heel and toe areas ensure lasting performance and long life of the sock.
● Vertical ribs: Vertical ribs up the back support the Achilles and help the sock stand tall. The ribs also provide a protective cushion behind the leg where pedal pins can sometimes bite.
● Quick dry: Synthetic (nylon and spandex) fabrics help this sock dry out faster than any other material that we tested during our development. Neither sweat nor water gave us any issue.
Wattstyle socks come in a variety of colors $12.00 ($14.00 for Wattstyle Wool Gray).
Chuck Peña PEZ sez: First things first. These are TALL socks! So Ed, Al and Leslie… avert your eyes! Fashion tastes aside, there’s a reason for taller socks and a reason you see so many pros wearing them: the compression (relative to bare skin) aids in blood flow from your legs to your heart. That plus more aero. NOTE that Wattstyle socks aren’t compression socks (and definitely flirting with the UCI rule on sock height that seems to never be enforced), but still #marginalgains. The compression is firm enough that I could feel it but not so firm that it felt too tight. But more than tight enough that I wasn’t worried about the socks falling down/sagging. The vertical ribbing felt very comfortable over my calf. My first ride in a pair of Wattstyle socks was an extended (90 minutes) Zwift ride which meant constant pedaling and no coasting. My feet were more than happy in the Wattstyle socks and I have no reason to believe they wouldn’t be happy wearing them on a much longer road ride. I’ve also done an outdoor ride (a couple of hours) in a pair for the Wattstyle Wool Gray socks and the Merino wool definitely kept my feet and toes toastier than a regular pair of socks.
I also want to do a shout out to Erik Saunders (the founder/owner of Memory Pilot), who I had a chance to chat with. He’s actually a former pro racer (both Europe and USA) and won a National Championship on the track. So he’s got the bonafides. But better yet, he’s a really nice, down to earth guy. Like so many of the businesses that make up the life’s blood of our economy, Memory Pilot is a small, local business (based in California). I know many of us are doing our bit to help support small, local business affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. So if you’re in the market for a new pair of socks and want to support a small business in the bike industry, have a look at Memory Pilot.

“It is pretty well-known that the name of the company we founded refers to my innate “passion” for cycling, road races and one-day Classics especially. Tom has always represented the essence of these races to me. I am definitely his fan and I strongly wanted to make him part of our business journey. His explosive and straightforward aptitude is perfect to represent our brand that, from its very beginning, has aimed to have a direct and authentic relationship with the consumers, just like Tom has with his fans.” Giuliano Ragazzi, CEO and Founder of La Passione, says. “We too, like Boonen, share a passion for challenges and an inclination to race always attacking. Our business model has enabled us to quickly succeed among the top players of the industry, just like he managed, over a few years, to revolutionize how to interpret this sport, becoming one of the relevant riders on the world cycling scene.
His experience, his inborn attention to details, and his curiosity are values that will be essential in developing our future collections.” Ragazzi concludes.
Tom – today a businessman and an appreciated Supercar pilot – has maintained a strong bond with his sport. “I like to be challenged on unfamiliar terrains, and this is definitely a new adventure for me. I’m glad to start cooperating with a brand such as La Passione that approaches the market in a totally innovative and direct way. The clothes for a rider are like a second skin: they need to be technical, comfortable, and to have some personality. I look forward to making my contribution to the La Passione team, which is always committed to research and develop performing and outstanding products.”

The State Bicycle Co 6061 Black Label All Road: Details
The 6061 Black-Label All Road combines all the best of State’s prior Black Label and All Road bikes. Starring a lightweight shaped 6061 Alloy frameset and matching carbon fork, the complete is equipped with house-brand components to maximize both performance and value.
State built the Black Label All-Road frame from 6061 aluminum for maximum performance, allowing the rider to get the most out of every pedal stroke. Aluminum is known for being both light and incredibly responsive to the rider, making it the ideal frame for covering ground quickly over any road surface. The bike’s geometry is tailored to be comfortable for long days in the saddle on and off the road. The frame uses thru-axles with 100/142 spacing, along with massive tire clearance (700×45 or 650×50) this gives the bike compatibility with a myriad of wheelset options/sizes. Two bottle mounts and fender mounts make it a long ride champ in all conditions, while internal main triangle cable routing keeps it looking clean.
Wheels and Tires:
The 6061 Black Label All-Road comes standard with a rider’s choice of tubeless-compatible 700c wheels with 38mm tires OR 650b with 47mm/1.9” tires.
BUT WHY PICK…when you can get both!? State Bicycle Co. has always had the motto Rider-First. To them, it means allowing each rider to select a bike that is perfect for their riding needs. When a rider orders their 6061 All-Road bike, they are able to choose 700c or 650b (at no cost difference) or get both for an extra $349.99. State makes it easy to go back and forth between each wheelset. Riders ordering BOTH get a 2nd set of fully-loaded wheels including wheels, rotors, cassettes, tires and tubes. With BOTH wheels included, State is nearly offering 2-bikes-in-1. Commute to work with the 700c wheelset Monday-Friday, and rip the trails on your 650b wheels on the weekends!

Safety Wing Gives You More Breathing Room
Passing cars swing wide when you use the Safety Wing. This EU-approved safety device is a folding reflector arm that extends 12″ from the bike. When not needed, it folds back and out of the way. The Safety Wing is typically mounted at the end of the chain stay on the left side of the bicycle, but the universal mounting bracket let’s you mount it almost anywhere. The seat stay or rack are other popular mounting positions. It weighs only 53 grams.
OK, it’s a little nerdy, but who cares? It works! It’s so nice to get some extra breathing room when you’re commuting on a busy street. You’ll watch cars swing wide and then back into the lane as they pass. It’s confrontational. It simply says, “Hey, I’m here, please pass with care.” … And they do. Nice.
● Price: $14.95
